PACE PUTS OFF PRESENTATION OF KARABAKH REPORT

YEREVAN, May 25 (RIA Novosti) – The presentation of Terry Davis’
preliminary report on Nagorny Karabakh to the PACE Political Commission
has been out off.
According to spokespeople for the Armenian parliament, it will be
presented at the committee’s next session, scheduled for June. The
postponement arises from the need to revise some of the points in
view of the “considerable changes” that have occurred in the conflict
zone in recent months. Davis say most of the changes are positive,
and that they bring the long-standing dispute closer to a settlement.
Davis, prominent on Britain’s House of Commons, is chairman of the
socialist faction in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of
Europe. He was appointed Rapporteur on Nagorny Karabakh (a region
disputed by Armenia and Azerbaijan) at the PACE summer session in
2002. After presentation to the PACE Political Committee, his report
will be put up for discussion at a session of the PACE Bureau.
