Bagapsh: Secessionist Regions Coordinate Policy
President-elect of breakaway Abkhazia Sergey Bagapsh, who is
visiting Moscow, said in an interview with the Echo Moskvy radio
station on January 27 that the unrecognized republics of Abkhazia,
South Ossetia, Moldova’s breakaway region of Transdnestria, as well
as Nagorno-Karabakh, are attempting to carry out a coordinated
policy.
The leaders of separatist regions of the CIS – Sergey Bagapsh of
Abkhazia, Eduard Kokoity of South Ossetian and Igor Smirnov of
Transnistria – visited Moscow at the same time this week.
Bagapsh said that he did not meet with the visiting leaders of the
secessionist regions in Moscow, however added that `we try to
coordinate all our actions with Transdnestria, South Ossetia and
Karabakh and in this issue we have a full, mutual understanding.’
When asked about the prospects of the breakaway regions’ future,
Sergey Bagapsh said that he is sure these regions will acquire
internationally recognized independence. `I do not only believe in
this, I am sure it will happen… International society should find
some kind of means to do this [recognize breakaway regions],’ he
added.
