Armenian foreign minister, Lithuanian defence minister discuss ties

Yerevan, 6 April: Armenian Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanyan received
Lithuanian National Defence Minister Gediminas Kirkilas on 6 April.

During the meeting they discussed issues of mutual interest. It was
noted that cooperation between the two countries is important in
boosting European integration of the South Caucasus countries.

Armenia’s progress was noted in this direction, in particular in
the preparation of an Individual Partnership Plan with NATO aimed
at expanding ties with NATO, and of the European Union – Armenia
action programme within the framework of the European Neighborhood
Policy. Lithuania’s role was also stressed as a link between the
region and these structures.

The sides also discussed a number of regional and international issues,
the Armenian Foreign Ministry press service reported. Oskanyan filled
the Lithuanian national defence minister in on the current state of
the Karabakh settlement. The sides noted that the conflict could not
be resolved militarily and expressed theirs anxiety over the frequent
cease-fire violations on the contact line.
