HEAD OF TURKISH MILITARY HEADQUARTERS TO THREATEN

Armenian Genocide

Shortly after the international conference on Armenian Genocide has
launched in Yerevan on April 20, Turkish Milliet newspaper sent its
response concentrating particularly on RA President Robert Kocharian’s
opening speech.

The same day, Milliet informed about the head of Turkish Military
Headquarters, Hilmi Ozqyoq, who reminded of Armenia in his speech at
the Military Academy while assessing the situation over Turkey.

Viewing Armenia’s stance as disturbing, Ozqyoq said, “Turkey wants
to normalize relations with Armenia. But we need Armenia to respect
basic norms of international law and act as a good neighbor. Armenia
instead not only fails to recognize Turkey’s territorial wholeness
but hums with activity directed to recognition of groundless claims
about Armenian genocide and ignores UN Security Council’s decisions
and maintains occupation of the Azerbaijan’s territory. The Lausanne
Treaty undermined political and jural legs of groundless genocide
claims. The Treaty put no obligation on the Republic of Turkey”.
