FULL INTEGRATION OF JAVAKHQ INTO GEORGIA’S SOCIAL-POLITICAL LIFE TO
TAKE 10-20 YEARS: GEORGIAN PRESIDENT
YEREVAN, APRIL 27. ARMINFO. The mostly Armenian region of Georgia
Samtskhe Javakheti will be fully integrated into Georgia’s
social-political life in 10-20 years, Georgia’s President Mikheil
Saakashvili says in an interview to Russland.ru.
He says that the Georgian government is going to encourage Armenians
to learn Georgian. Unlike other ethnic minorities few Georgian
Armenians speak Georgian fluently preferring Russian or Armenia and
sending their children for education to Moscow or Yerevan rather than
Tbilisi. Many of them say later that they cannot find jobs in Georgia
because they do not know Georgian.
Saakashvili says that he is going to also promote the economic and
infrastructure development of Javakhq and to make close Georgians and
Armenians in that region. “Our strength is in our diversity,” he
notes.
