Ankara will host Chancellor Gerhard Chroeder of Germany, one of the
locomotive countries of the European Union (EU).

Schroder will pay a two-day official visit to Turkey and he is
expected to reiterate German support for Turkey’s EU bid. Turkish
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in return will ask his German
counterpart to remove a bill regarding the so-called Armenian genocide
in German Parliament. Schroder has positively viewed Turkey’s offer
to form a joint commission to investigate the related allegations
and is anticipated to suggest opening the border between Turkey and
Armenia. Upon the Turkish warning regarding initiatives by the German
opposition regarding the Armenian allegations and the relations between
the two countries, the Christian Democrats Union (CDU) have suspended
the attempt “for now”. Erdogan will supply Shcroder with the details
of the Turkish approach to these allegations during his visit.
