Armenian speaker, EU envoy discuss Karabakh, reforms

Yerevan, 5 May: The special representative of the European Union
[EU] to the South Caucasus, Heikki Talvitie, has described the recent
hearings in the Armenian parliament on the settlement of the Nagornyy
Karabakh conflict as an important contribution to the peace process.
Talvitie said this at a meeting with the speaker of the Armenian
National Assembly, Artur Bagdasaryan, in Yerevan on 4 May.
At Talvitie’s request, Bagdasaryan spoke about the legislative,
constitutional and electoral reforms in Armenia. He stressed that for
the first time in Armenia’s history a new electoral code was being
adopted two years before the elections.
Bagdasaryan and Talvitie also discussed the activities of the South
Caucasus parliamentary initiative in the context of its possible
transformation into a South Caucasus parliamentary assembly.
