CHAIRMAN OF TURKISH NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SUPPORTS ORGANIZERS OF CONFERENCE
Bulent Arenc, chairman of the Turkish National Assembly, who pays an
official visit to Washington met with Turkish journalists. According to the
May 27 issue of Radikal, the latter reminded him of the delay after
criticizing the conference envisaged in the Bosphorus University. In
response, Arenc said that “the freedom of the speech and thought doesn’t
mean statements on the issues that will receive the applauses of everybody.
Dissent should be accepted naturally.” Radikal stated that by this statement
he supported the organizers of the conference and criticized their
opponents.
