“SHIKAHOGH” FORREST RESERVE “WON” – IRAN-ARMENIA HIGHWAY WILL PASS BY IT
YEREVAN, JUNE 17. ARMINFO. Project of an alternative road passing by
Shikahogh forest reserve will be adopted. Minister of Transport and
Communication of Armenia Andranik Manukyan told ARMINFO’s correspondent
after today’s public discussion on laying on Iran-Armenian highway.
Meanwhile, in his speech, Andranik Manukyan stated that in conformity
of the Armenian President’s instruction, the government is to elaborate
a detailed project on construction of Meghri-Kapan road passing by
the forest reserve within a week. He also stated that in conformity
with Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan’s decree, a governmental task
four will be formed today. The minister said that the alternative
road will be 7 km longer and 150 meters higher of the project of
the highway proposed by ministry of Transport – Meghri-Shvanidzor-
Verishen-Tsav-Kapan. The alternative road will pass by the forest
reserve via the village Shishkert. According to preliminary data,
its construction will cost $20 mln. The minister said that decision on
alternative project was not made under pressure of ecological public
organizations. “It is a decision of the government and instruction
of the president.” Moreover, he stated that the role of public
organizations, their numerous protests, was equal to naught in this
decision. This statement by the minister aroused bewilderment of
public ecological organizations.
