Armenia’s transport and communication minister, Andranik Margarian,
told a briefing on July 14 that the construction of Kars-Akhalkalak
railway is not desirable for Armenia, and the latter is doing
everything to prevent its construction. Manukian stated particularly
that he underscored in his speech during the meeting with transport
ministers of European states that there is already a constructed
railway, which can be studied and rehabilitated. The minister said
that opening of the Kars-Akhalkalak railway will make Armenia’s
blockade complete. Given Azerbaijan, Turkey and Georgia trying to
get money from the EU, it was important to raise that issue before
the European structures, Manukian said. He reminded of EU’s TRASECA
project, which does not mention Kars-Akhalkalak railway but instead,
the Gyumri-Kars railway.
