THE PATRIARCH ATTENDS THE OPENING OF THE PRINCES’ ISLANDS FESTIVAL

;NewsCode=N000000715&Lang=ENG

Late in the afternoon of Friday, 15 July 2005, His Beatitude Mesrob II,
Armenian Patriarch of Istanbul and All Turkey, set out for the Princes
Islands in a boat loaned by the young businessman, Hrant Moskofyan. His
Beatitude arrived at the landing of the Anatolian Club of Buyuk Island
and was met with a bouquet of flowers presented by Hovsep Ozacar, vice
chairperson of the Association of Friends of the Islands and member
of the organizing committee of the festival, and by Begum Yilmaz,
member of the regional assembly of the Peoples Republican Party (CHP)
and chairperson of the Turkish Women’s Association.

After taking tea with Mevlut Kurban, sub-governor of the Islands,
and Coskun Ozden, chairperson of the Princes Islands Municipality
(AKP), His Beatitude the Patriarch joined the opening cocktail of
the festival. Representatives of the Princes Islands Rotary Club
presented His Beatitude with a book entitled “Drawings of the Islands,”
containing the ink sketches of Dr. Musa Albukrek. His Beatitude then
toured with great pleasure the art exhibit organized by the Kanat
Bayazit Art Gallery in the Anatolian Club building.

After conversations with various intellectuals, writers, artists,
academicians, military officers and administrators who attended the
festival opening, His Beatitude the Patriarch congratulated all who
had organized the Festival of the Princes Islands and wished them
success. The Patriarch returned that evening to Kumkapi, accompanied
by Father Tatul Anusyan, the pastor of the Armenian community on the
Princes Islands.
