Baku, August 12, AssA-Irada — Armenia has granted areas in the Berd,
Tavush and Ijevan regions bordering on Azerbaijan for the transfer
of Russia’s weaponry from Russian military bases in Georgia, Russian
“Nezavisimaya Gazeta” newspaper quoted the Azerbaijani Ministry for
Defense as saying.
“The Russian military base in the Gumru region of Armenia is not
capable of receiving the arms, therefore, official Yerevan granted
special areas in the regions bordering on Azerbaijan for the purpose”,
the same source said.
The newspaper also said that the Azerbaijan Ministry of Defense has
strengthened its borders with Armenia following the move.
Russia earlier closed down its base in Georgia and moved a part of its
weaponry to Armenia, which angered Azerbaijani officials and public.*
