/PanARMENIAN.Net/ The actively developing Armenian-Thai trade and
economic relations give occasion for saying that the good turnover
between the two countries will make $5 million this year, while it
was $3.8 million in 2004. Armenian Deputy FM Armen Bayburdyan stated
at a briefing upon signing of the Joint Program of Actions between
Armenia and the Kingdom of Thailand. He noted with content that the
volume of commodity turnover has increased five times as compared
with that past year. At that, in his words, Armenia’s export exceeds
the import. As the Deputy FM noted, an important event – the signing
of the Joint Program of Actions – has taken place in the developing
Armenian-Thai relations, which means the beginning of a new stage in
the development of the bilateral relations. A. Bayburdyan also noted
that during Armenian PM A. Margaryan’s visit to Thailand in June an
agreement was reached with Thai PM Thaksin Shinawatra on the working
out of a document, providing for cooperation. Thereupon, MFA of Armenia
and Thailand were commissioned to complete the work before September
10 and to sign the document. The document provides for specific
bilateral actions, as well as implementation of programs. “I would
like to specially note that a permanent expo of Thai goods will open
in Yerevan next year and a representation of the House of Commerce
and Industry of Armenia will open in Bangkok,” the Deputy FM said. In
his words, agricultural relations have especially developed and there
is an Armenian-Thai working group in the field. Its first session has
been held in Thailand this April, while the second sitting is planned
to be held in November. Armen Bayburdyan noted that proceeding from
the dynamics of development of bilateral relations one can say that
distance is not an obstacle for cooperation.
