PRICE OF FOOD SOARED

The news agency ARKA, relying on the facts of the National Statistics
Service of Armenia, informs that in March 2006 the prices of food in
Armenia grew by 5 per cent. The price of fish went up by 21.2 per
cent, the price of fresh whitefish increased by 25.2 per cent. It
is notable that in nine cities of Armenia the price of fish grew by
11.9-27.4 per cent, whereas in Vanadzor it went down by 3.2 per cent.
The price of sugar grew by 7.2 per cent, the price of meat and meat
products grew by 0.1-3.3 per cent. The “odyssey” of bird flu caused
the price of egg to go down by 13.6 per cent. The prices of fruit
and vegetables decreased by an average of 3.9 and 1.9 per cent
respectively. The prices of coffee, tea, alcohol and tobacco did
not change.
