IRAN CRACKS DOWN ON ETHNIC AZERIS OVER MASSACRE PROTEST – AGENCY

Baku, 5 April: Tehran has intensified persecution of members of the
national liberation movement of Southern Azerbaijan [northern Iran],
a source in the Baku office of the National Revival Movement of
Southern Azerbaijan has told Turan.
Iranian special services arrested many members of the movement in
their homes last night [4 April], the source said. The reason was
the protest they staged in Tabriz to commemorate the genocide of
Azerbaijanis [by Armenians] on 31 March [1918]. Several hours later
some of the detainees were released, while others were bailed. Five
people are still in remand facilities, the source said.
