System Of A Down to launch political campaign

The band want the US to recognise Armenian genocide
System Of A Down are set to launch a three-day campaign in Washington
DC for the recognition of the Armenian genocide.

Singer Serj Tankian and drummer John Dolmayan will kick off the
campaign on April 24. Their aims are to urge Speaker Of The House
Dennis Hastert and other Congressional leaders to acknowledge the
historical event in which Turkey allegedly slaughtered 1.5 million
Armenians between 1915 and 1923.

At 5pm the band members will join the Armenian National Committee Of
America and Armenian Youth Federation in leading their demonstration
outside the gates of the Turkish Embassy.

The following day, Tankian and Dolmayan will give interviews to the
political media in Washington before hosting a congressional
screening of ‘Screamers’, a new documentary by filmmaker Carla
Garapedian which focuses on System Of A Down’s global campaign for
the recognition of the Armenian genocide.

Key members of Congress will meet with the band on the Wednesday
(April 26) as the musicians urge them to allow a vote on legislation
recognising the genocide.

At 5.30pm, Tankian and Dolmayan will take part in the eleventh annual
Capitol Hill commemoration of the historical event.

Before the three-day campaign in Washington DC, System Of A Down will
perform at their yearly ‘Souls’ benefit concert in Los Angeles on
April 23.

Taking place at the city’s Greek Theatre, this year’s concert will be
raising awareness for an Armenian Genocide Resolution.
