Foreign Investments In First Quarter Up 57%

FOREIGN INVESTMENTS IN FIRST QUARTER UP 57%

YEREVAN, JUNE 21, ARMENPRESS: Armenian national statistical service
said the volume of foreign investments in the real sector of
Armenian economy in the first quarter of the year amounted to $94.3
million. This figure does not include investments received through
the government and banks. The volume of investments was 57 percent
more from a year ago.

The committee said the amount of direct investments in the economy
was $45.4 million, 27 percent up from a year ago. The committee
said 50 percent of foreign investments in this time span went to
the communications sector. They made accordingly 31 percent of all
direct investments.

Twenty-seven percent went to metallurgical industry and 10 percent to
aviation. Also 6.3 percent went to restaurants and hotel businesses
and 8.3 percent to production of beverages. The rest went to energy,
construction and some other sectors.
