ARMENIAN, AZERBAIJANI, GEORGIAN, MOLDOVAN AND
UKRAINIAN REPRESENTATIVES OF CULTURE TO MEET IN
STRASBOURG

YEREVAN, AUGUST 10, ARMENPRESS: As part of `Kiev
Initiative’ program representatives of cultural sphere
of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine
will gather August 31 in Strasbourg and discuss issues
on cultural problems of their countries. Robert
Palmer, the director of the fourth Chief Education,
Culture and Heritage, Youth and Sports Directorate of
Council of Europe, who is in Armenia on a five-day
visit said yesterday that `Kiev Initiative’ is a
program directed towards the development of democracy
through culture and it is carried out in Armenia,
Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. The program
kicked off in September, 2005.
During his visit Palmer met with the
representatives of the Armenian Culture and Youth
Affairs Ministry. During the meeting with Hasmik
Poghosian, Armenian culture minister, the latter
presented to the guest the structure of the ministry,
its system, achievements of the sphere, issues and
priorities.
According to Palmer, Armenia has firm grounds on
the basis of which it is possible to start effective
activity. He said from the point of view of cultural
values Yerevan is a town with European standards. He
also added that within the framework of the program an
importance will be given to the protection and
restoration of historic-cultural values.
Bojana Urumova, special representative of the
Secretary General of the Council of Europe in Armenia,
said that she is very much pleased with the results of
the visit of Palmer and expressed hope that in future
the initiatives will turn to the regional cooperation.
