BELGIUM TO FACE ARMENIA WITHOUT KOMPANY, VERMAELEN

BRUSSELS, Aug 28 (Reuters) – Belgium coach Rene Vandereycken was
forced to pick replacements for injured central defenders Vincent
Kompany and Thomas Vermaelen in the squad he named on Monday to face
Armenia in a Euro 2008 qualifier next month.
Belgium, who were held to a humiliating 0-0 draw at home by European
Championship debutants Kazakhstan earlier this month, will travel to
Yerevan for the match on Sept. 6.
Hamburg’s Kompany and Vermaelen, who plays for Ajax, were both
unavailable through injury with Vandereycken calling up Pieter Collen
of Feyenoord and Nicolas Lombaerts of Ghent in their places. Squad
