FOUR NEW COMMEMORATIVE COINS PUT INTO CIRCULATION IN ARMENIA SINCE DECEMBER 25

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 26, NOYAN TAPAN. The Central Bank of Armenia on
December 25 put into circulation gold commemorative coins dedicated
to the victory of the Armenian men’s team in the 37th World Chess
Olympiad, the 125th anniversary of Hakob Gurjian and the 100th
anniversary of Jean Garzu. The obverse of the first commemorative
coin depicts the emblem of the 37th Chess Olympiad in Turin and the
inscription "Olimpiadi degli Scaccchi Torino 2006", under which the
nominal value of the coin – 10,000 drams is given. "The Repblic of
Armenia 2006" is inscribed on the outer circle. The coat of arms of
the RA is depicted on the coin reverse’s small inner circle, around
which the words "Golden Team" and "Armenia" are inscribed. The chess
pieces are depicted on the big circle, and the names of the players
of the Armenian chess team – "A. Minasian, L. Aronian, V. Hakobian,
K. Asrian, G. Sargsian, S. Lputian" are inscribed on the edging of
the commemorative coin. The coin was designed by Eduard Kyurghinian
and minted at the Mint of the Czech Republic. The obverse of the gold
commemorative coin dedicated to the 125th anniversary of H. Gurjian
depicts his bronze sculture "Salome" (1925-1926), to the right of which
the nominal value of the coin is given – 10,000 drams. The outer circle
has the name of the organization which issued this commemorative coin
and the year of the issue: "The Central Bank of Armenia 2006". The
reverse of the coin has the portrait of H. Gurjian in the middle,
with his birth and death years – 1881 and 1948 inscribed in the right
side. The name of the sculptor in Armenian and English is inscribed on
the edging of the coin. The inner circle of the obverse of the gold
commemorative coin dedicated to the 100th annivearsry of J. Garzu
depicts his lithography "Vank" ("Monastery"), under which the nominal
value of the coin – 10,000 drams is given. The outer circle has the
insription of the organization which issued this commemorative coin
and the year of the issue – "The Central Bank of Armenia 2006". The
coin’s reverse has the portrait of J. Garzu, with his name in Armenian
inscribed in the upper right side. The coin was designed by Harutyun
Samuelian (obverse) and Karen Kojoyan (reverse).

The coin was minted at the Mint of the Czech Republic. Characterics
of the gold medals: Nominal value – 10,000 drams Metal and hallmark
– gold, 9000 Mass – 8.6 grams Diameter – 22.0 mm Edging – indented

of the CBA press center, on the same day a silver commemorative coin
dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Marshal Hamazasp Babajanian was
put into circulation. The obverse of the coin has the coat of arms
of the RA in the middle of the inner circle, under which the nominal
value of the coin – 1,000 drams is given. The outer circle has the
insrciption of the organization that issued this commemorative coin and
the year of the issue – "The Central Bank of Armenia 2006". Marshal
Hamazasp Babajanian in his military uniform is depicted on the
inner circle of the coin’s reverse. The marshal’s name in Armenian
and years of his birth and death – 1906-1977 are inscribed on the
outer circle. The commemorative coin was designed by Karen Kojoyan
and minted at the Mint of the Czech Republic. Characteristics of the
commemorative coin: Nominal value – 1,000 drams Metal and hallmark –
silver, 9250 Mass – 33.6 grams Diameter – 38.0 mm Edging: indented
