Five Armenian Grossmasters Among Best 100 of World
As of January 1, FIDE published its rating list of the strongest chess
players of the world. The five Armenian gorssmasters are also among
the best 100 chess players of the world. Thus, Levon Aronian has the
highets rating (2744 scores¤. He gained 3 points and preserved the
7th place. Vladimir Hakobian has gained 2700 points and retreated
to the 20th place from the 15th. The third representative of Armenia
in the FIDE rating list is Gabriel Sargsian who has 2658 points and
moved to 48th place from the 41st. Karen Asrian and Smbat Lpoutian
preserved their rating, they have 2634 points each and occupy the
78th and 79th places relevantely.
The Bulgarian grossmaster Veselin Topalov lost 30 points after the
game for the champoin’s title with Vladimir Kramnik. As a result,
Kramnik gained 16 points.
As for ladies, the Hungarian grossmaster Judith Polgar has also
preserved her posittion. She occupies the leading position in the
rating list. The list of the best 50 lady grossmasters includes
Lilith Lazarian ¥2458, 24th place¤ and Elina Danielian ¥2426, 42nd
place¤. Our young grossmasters are also occupying good positions
in the rating list. thus, Arman Pashikian has 2532 points and Zaven
Andreasian 2508 points.
According to its average rating (2627), Armenia shares the third and
the fourth places with the USA.
As before, Russia is the leading country in the list (2713). Then
comes Ukraine (2661). Hungary (2623), China (2617), Israel (2623),
France (2615), Georgia (2609) and Poland (2608) are among the best 10.
