US Deputy assistant Secretary of State on Europe and Eurasia Matthew
Bryza has urged not to perceive the signing of the bill banning
financing of the Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway by President
Bush as US opposition to the project. Matthew Bryza said this in an
interview with Azerbaijani "Azertag" state agency, Mediamax reports.

"We always endorse programs expanding transport communication. We
aspire to develop the programs, which connect all the countries along
East-West corridor. Of course, we wish that some day the railway
from Turkey to Baku passed through the territory of Armenia. First,
because it reflects our policy, economically it is more logical to
reach from Turkey to Georgia through Armenian land, using the railway
that already exists. But we cannot take such decision.

Investors themselves propose convenient ways for their investments. If
Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey want to build a railway, naturally,
we cannot mind.

At the same time, we do not back the program. Let’s hope that in the
near future we shall see railways that will link the whole region,"
Matthew Bryza said.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
