AGBU New York Special Events Committee Wraps Up a Successful 2006

AGBU’s New York Special Events Committee (NYSEC) concluded another
productive year in 2006 with a series of benefit events that raised
over $15,000 for AGBU programs.

In support of the AGBU Karabakh Repopulation Project, NYSEC will
donate $10,000 to the construction of a home in the new village of
Nor Jrakn in the Republic of Karabakh. This endeavor is helping to
repopulate previously war-torn and abandoned Armenian villages in the
southeastern Hadrut region, while also providing humanitarian relief
and agricultural support to needy families. To show her appreciation
for NYSEC’s efforts, the First Lady of Karabakh, Inna Ghoukassian,
attended a lecture and lunch hosted by NYSEC during an official visit
to New York in November 2006.

Other NYSEC highlights of 2006 included a backstage tour of New
York’s illustrious Metropolitan Opera House; a visit to the official
residence of the New York City Mayor, Gracie Mansion; lectures by
Dr. George Bournoutian and Dr. Sylvie Der Khorenian; and personal
tours of Chelsea art galleries, the privately-owned Onassis Museum
and the world-renowned Museum of Modern Art (MOMA).

NYSEC’s next event, an Off-Broadway presentation of William Saroyan’s
last play, "Cave Dwellers," will take place on February 28, 2007.

Established in 2003, NYSEC is committed to upholding AGBU’s
mission to preserve and promote the Armenian identity and heritage
through educational, cultural and humanitarian programs. For more
information about NYSEC, please contact the Committee Co-Chairwomen,
Nila Festekjian at [email protected] or Gacia Mangassarian at
