Azeri foreign minister says Karabakh talks in Moscow "quite hard"

Turan, Azerbaijan
Jan 23 2007

Moscow, 23 January: "Talks with [Armenian Foreign Minister] Vardan
Oskanian were intensive. They were about the last principle of the
[Karabakh] settlement," Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov
told reporters following the talks in Moscow.

Mammadyarov did not elaborate on this principle, but admitted that
the talks were "quite hard".

The sides agreed to carry on the talks, he said.

The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group are visiting the region today.
They will continue the talks with the Azerbaijani and Armenian
presidents.

Asked if the presidents could also meet, Mammadyarov said that the
presidents themselves might decide on that after meeting the co-chairs.

Armenian reports said that the talks have yielded no tangible
results. The sides have not been able to make progress in the talks,
they said.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
