LEADER OF JEWISH COMMUNITY HOPES ISRAEL WILL RECOGNIZE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE
Today is the day of memory of Holocaust victims. Rima Varjapetyan,
leader of the Armenian community of Jews, said there would be no
Holocaust if 1915 genocide of Armenians were recognized. `The Armenian
community of Jews fully supports recognition of the Armenian
genocide,’ Jewish community head said. In her words, the community
supports U.S. congress resolution urging George W. Bush to pay special
attention to human rights, ethnicity and the Armenian genocide.
`All tragedies must be remembered so that they are not repeated,’
Varjapetyan said. `I can express my personal disposition and will
never speak on behalf of Israeli people and moreover the
authorities. But I know that the citizens of Israel and Jews around
the world who know the history cannot fail to support. I am sure that
the day will come and the Armenian genocide will be recognized,’ she
said.
