27.01.2007 13:39 GMT+04:00
/PanARMENIAN.Net/ On January 25 the UN General Assembly approved a
resolution, which condemns Holocaust denial as a fact of history,
France Presse reports. The document was backed by 103 UN member
countries of 192, no voting has been held. The resolution was
introduced on Tuesday by the U.S. representative. It calls upon all
the UN member states to unconditionally reject full or partial doubts
on Holocaust. There is no mentioning of a certain country in the
document, but it indicates `ignorance of the horrible historical facts
of Holocaust, which increases the possibility of its repetition.’
The resolution of the General Assembly does not have binding force
like Security Council’s resolutions, but they have moral and symbolic
force. The voting was held on the eve of International Commemoration
Day for Holocaust Victims January 27. This date was chosen for the
liberation of prisoners in Auschwitz in January 27, 1945, the biggest
death camp of Nazi Germany.
