ISTANBUL POLICE CHIEF TO BE INVESTIGATED OVER FAILURES TO ACT ON DINK MURDER TIP

The head of the Istanbul police intelligence department was dismissed
over failing to act on a tip-off that prominent Turkish-Armenian
journalist Hrant Dink would be killed.

Interior Ministry on Wednesday granted permission to inspectors on
Wednesday to start an investigation against the head of Istanbul’s
police, Celallettin Cerrah.
The probe into the murder of prominent Turkish-Armenian journalist
Hrant Dink on January 19 had led to investigations into the police
force both failing to act on information that he would be murdered and
into photographs and video footage taken of the alleged killer while
in custody showing him being treating as a hero by police officers.
