TURKISH SPOKESMAN COMMENTS ON ARMENIAN JOURNALIST MURDER INQUIRY,
ANTI-KURD RAIDS
Ankara, 9 February: Security Department Spokesman Ismail Caliskan
said that all allegations on journalist Hrant Dink’s murder were
being investigated by public prosecutors and civil inspectors in a
detailed way.
In his weekly press briefing, Caliskan replied to questions on Hrant
Dink’s murder and the recent operations against the terrorist
organization in Europe.
Upon a question on the claims stating that suspect of Hrant Dink’s
assassination Ogun Samast’s mobile phone could not be found yet,
Caliskan said, "Such kind of allegations are being inspected in a
detailed way".
Replying to another question on whether there were any strife between
institutions (police and gendarmerie) regarding the video cassettes
on the incident, Caliskan noted, "There is no conflict between the
institutions. These cassettes were leaked to the press by malevolent
people".
Furthermore, in his reply to a question on whether there was any
"negligence" concerning the incident, Caliskan indicated that the
investigation is still going on and inspectors were trying to find
out if there was any negligence.
Operations against terrorist organization
Caliskan also commented on the latest developments regarding the
operations carried out in European countries against the terrorist
organization (PKK) [Kurdistan Workers’ Party] as well.
He affirmed that an intensive pressure was exerted on both national
and international arena in order to halt possible political and
financial support provided to the terrorist organization.
"As a result of the operations carried out in France and Belgium last
week, the terrorist organization’s top-level executives and
representatives in Europe were under arrest," Caliskan said.
"These are extremely positive developments. We expect the cooperation
against terrorism to continue. We hope that other countries in which
the terrorist organization is active carry out similar operations as
well," he added.
Meanwhile, during the operations conducted in Belgium and France, 17
people were taken into custody in connection with the terrorist
organization, security sources said.
