ARMENTEL RESTORES TELEPHONE COMMUNICATION IN 800 VILLAGES

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 12, ARMENPRESS: ArmenTel telephone operator
said it has fulfilled one of its obligations -to restore and build
new telephone lines for 800 rural settlements. This was one of the
takeover commitments when the operator was sold to Greek OTE and has
been passed to its new owner, Russian Vimpelcom.

Hasmik Chuljian, a spokeswoman for ArmenTel, said there remain a couple
of villages which have not yet telephone communication, but she added
that as soon as weather conditions allow, the work will resume there.

This means that now all villages of Armenia will have telephone
communication. She said the company has digitized concurrently 80
percent of telephone exchanges in Yerevan. She said also the company
has started installment of ADSL facility that allows speedy Internet
connections and quality telephone services.
