LEADERSHIP OF BRITISH ARMENIAN COMMUNITY CONVINCED THAT IT IS TIME FOR
ALL-ARMENIAN STRUCTURES TO COOPERATE
LONDON, FEBRUARY 23, NOYAN TAPAN – ARMENIANS TODAY. Ashot Grigorian,
Chairman of the Office of Armenian Organizations of Europe and the
Armenian community of Slovakia, advisor to the Armenian Foreign
Minister, on February 16-21 had meetings with the leadership of the
Armenian community of Great Britain and of the Committee for
Recognition of Armenian Genocide (CRAG) and a number of well-known
British Armenian public figures. Ashot Grigorian told NT that the
purpose of these meetings is to promote pro-Armenian work in Great
Britain and joint activities with other communities of Europe. During
meetings with Chairman of the Armenian community of Great Britain Ara
Palamudian, executive director Suren Sarukhanov, CRAG Chairman Rafi
Sarkisian, leader Charlie Malas and others, issues of joining the
World Armenian Congress and cooperation with this organization were
discussed. Expressing gratitude for this proposal, the leadership of
the Armenian community of Great Britain noted that it is time to
develop this cooperation. An agreement was reached to start activities
aimed at filing a suit against Turkey on the issue of Armenian
Genocide to the International Court of Justice. A. Grigorian
appreciated results of the agreement with famous lawyer Harry
Hakobian, saying that the latter has much work experience at the
International Court of Justice in the Hague and is ready to cooperate
actively in the issue of the Armenian Genocide. According to A.
Grigorian, thanks to activities of Harry Hakobian and CRAG’s
leadership, the issue of the Armenian Genocide was discussed twice (in
2005 and 2006) in the capital city of Scotland Edinburgh and approved
by a majority of votes. Ashot Grigorian noted that during a meeting
with BBC journalist Marc Grigorian they agreed on active cooperation
within the All Armenian Mass Media Association. Media officers of the
British Armenian community expressed an intention to join the
association.
