NAGORNYY KARABAKH REPUBLIC [NKR] REGISTERS POPULATION GROWTH IN 2006

Yerevan, 26 February: The population of the Nagornyy Karabakh republic
[NKR] reached 137,700 as of 1 January 2007.

A total of 2,102 babies were born in the republic in 2006; that is
4.9 per cent up on 2005, the NKR National Statistical Service told
Mediamax.

Natural growth of the population increased by 16.5 per cent and went
up to 867 people, whereas the death rate fell by two per cent.

Some 241 families, or 872 people, including 395 children, moved to
Nagornyy Karabakh from Armenia and other CIS countries last year.
