EXPORT FROM ARMENIA GROW BY 24% IN JANUARY 2007 ON SAME MONTH OF LAST YEAR, IMPORT GROW BY 71%

YEREVAN, MARCH 14, NOYAN TAPAN. In January 2007, Armenia’s foreign
trade amounted to 94 bln 761.5 mln drams or 260.3 mln USD. According
to the RA National Statistical Service, export of goods made 21 bln
640.2 mln drams or 59.5 mln USD, while import – 73 bln 121.3 mln
drams or 200.8 mln USD. The foreign trade balance was negative by 51
bln 481.2 mln drams (141.2 mln USD), that without cargo received as
humanitarian aid – 50 bln 732.7 mln drams (139.2 mln USD). In January
2007, export grew by 24% on the same month of last year, import grew
by 71%. In January 2007, export of goods to CIS countries made over
18.2 mln USD (94.3% growth on January 2006), while import – over 67.2
mln USD (89.1% growth), including export to Russia – about 12.8 mln
USD (166.3% growth), import – 48.8 mln USD (104.1% growth); export to
Georgia – 3.16 mln USD (3.2% decline), import – over 6 mln USD (69.3%
growth). Export to EU countries made about 27.2 mln USD (4.3% growth),
import – over 57 mln USD (56.2% growth), including export to Belgium –
about 6 mln USD (19.3% decline), import – 10.7 mln USD (15.8% decline);
export to Germany – about 9.9 mln USD (34.6% growth), import – 5.8
mln USD (39.3% growth); export to the Netherlands – about 8 mln USD
(10.1% decline), import – about 6 mln USD (45.2% decline). Export to
Israel made 2.9 mln USD (31.2% decline), import – over 4.7 mln USD
(48% decline); export to the US – about 1.8 mln USD (32% decline),
import – 10.8 mln USD (62% growth).
