[01:39 pm] 21 March, 2007
On March 21, the Constitutional Right Union spread the following
announcement, "The recent illegal actions of the RA officialdom
against the CRU have resulted in illegal and political outcomes." The
confiscation of the CRU central office, the editorial office of
"Iravunk" newspaper, the property of the party and the belongings of
the staff testify to these illegal steps. Further on the Compulsory
Executive Services handed all the above-mentioned things to people
not related to the party."
As a result, the CRU has been deprived of the chance to run for the
RA NA elections. This is an apparent breach of the RA Constitution
and Electoral Code which puts the legitimacy of the 2007 Parliament
elections into peril.
The announcement reads, "The acting leader of the party, Hayk
Babukhanyan applies the criminal mechanisms of insinuation and false
treachery towards the CRU presidium members and Executive Board."
The CRU regional heads are pursued. The representatives of the
CRU board announce that all the pursuits are initiated by the RA
authorities against the CRU and Hayk Babukhanyan on political grounds.
They are aimed at preventing the CRU’s engagement in the upcoming
parliamentary elections and at hindering Hayk Babukhanyan’s involvement
in the proportional constituency and the activity of free media.
The above-mentioned state actions broke the principles of free media
and diversity of parties in Armenia.
CRU is determined to struggle for the implementation of political and
civil rights, free and fair elections to secure Hayk Babuhkanyan’s
victory in the election campaign."
