Premier Wen expresses condolences over Armenian PM’s death

BEIJING, March 26 (Xinhua) — Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on
Monday telephoned the Armenian President Robert Kocharyan to express
his heartfelt condolences over the death of Armenian Prime Minister
Andranik Margarian.

Also on behalf of the Chinese government, Premier Wen conveyed
sincere condolences over the death of the prime minister, to the
Armenian government and the Armenian people as well as members of
Margarian’s family.

Margarian died of a heart attack on Sunday. He had been
hospitalized several times in recent years.

MOSCOW, March 25 (Xinhua) — Armenian Prime Minister Andranik
Margarian died of a heart attack Sunday, the government press service
said.

Margarian had been hospitalized several times in recent years and
complained of a cold on Saturday, according to the Itar-Tass news
agency.

Born in 1951, Margarian started his career as a computer
engineer. He served as prime minister from May 2000 and was sworn-in
again in April 2004. He was also the council chairman of the
Republican Party of Armenia.

Armenian President Robert Kocharyan has called an emergency
meeting of senior officials, according to Interfax.
