MEMORABLE PRIME MINISTER ANDRANIK MARGARIAN BEFOREHANDS PREPARES HIS
ADDRESS ON OCCASION OF INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THEATER BUT DOES NOT
MANAGE TO CERTIFY IT

YEREVAN, APRIL 2, NOYAN TAPAN. Memorable Prime Minister Andranik
Margarian beforehands prepared his address on the occasion of the
International Day of Theater, but he did not manage to certify it
because of his premature death. Yervand Ghazanchian, the Chairman of
the Union of Theater Figures stated about it at the March 30 annual
"Artavazd" awarding of the Union.

Before the awarding ceremony, those present stand in memory of
Andranik Margarian with one-minute silence. The Union Chairman read
the Prime Minister’s address where the role of the theater and theater
figures was particularly mentioned in the affair of building healthy
society.

In the words of Armen Khandikian, the artistic head of the Yerevan
Hrachia Ghaplanian Dramatic Theater, he was given this address at the
Government, in a day after the Prime Minister’s death. According to
his estimation, Andranik Margarian was that rare type of an Armenia
who was both leader and servant. He served his people wholly and
devotedly. His greatest reward was the people’s love what was
especially expressed by estimations made during the mourning days," he
emphasized.

A. Khandikian mentioned that only in their theater 9 performances were
staged and 4 books were published under A. Margarian’s patronage
during 7 years.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
