YEREVAN, APRIL 13, ARMENPRESS: Armenian Communist Party said today
it has put the final touches to its election program and will launch
its election campaign next week by visiting Armenia’s provinces.
The chief of the party, Ruben Tovmasian, told a news conference their
program is ‘modest,’ but is based on ‘serious calculations."
Tovmasian said the party will not capitalize on ‘self-advertisement,’
but will promote its campaign by giving proper assessment to the
processes which the nation has experienced over the last 17 years.
"We are determined to act vigorously in this struggle for May 12
parliamentary elections and we think that we are on the right track,"
he said.
In the previous 2003 parliamentary elections the Communist Party of
Armenia won only 2 percent of popular votes and none of 131 seats in
its National Assembly, while in 1999 polls it won over 12 percent of
all votes and several seats in the parliament.
