YEREVAN, APRIL 17, NOYAN TAPAN – ARMENIANS TODAY. The Armenian
demonstration of London-residing film maker Carla Karapetian’s
chronical-documentary film "The Criers" about the Armenian Genocide
will take place at Yerevan’s Moscow Cinema on April 17-24. The film
tells not only about the Armenian Genocide but also other genocides
committed after it – in Rwanda, Bosnia, Czechia, etc.

Carla Karapetian, who has came to Armenia to participate in the
Armenian demonstration of the film, met with repsorters on April
16. The young film maker was born to a family of genocide survivors
in Los Angeles. She currently lives in London where she works as a
BBC announcer.

"I am in Armenia for the first time. This is an important visit for
me because my first film will be shown here," Carla said. According
to her, previously it never occured to her to make a film: "The idea
came suddenly when I went to a concert of the famous and progressive
metal band System of a Down." In its songs, this US band calls on the
recognize the 1915 Armenian Genocide, which is still being denied by
Turkey and the US.

The film shows this famous heavy metal band composed of 4 members
of Armenian descent who tour around the world, campaigning for the
genocide recognition. They try to find out why genocides are committed
today as well.

In the opinion of Carla Karapetian, perhaps the most efficient method
for recognition and prevention of genocides is to speak about this
subject by means of culture.

The film was shown for two weeks by BBC, its demonstarion was organized
at the US congress on the initiative of Congress member Adam Schiff
who is well-known for his pro-Armenian position. On April 24 "The
Criers" will be demonstrated in the British parliament, in May – in
France. The film won the award of viewers’ sympathy during a festival
held by the US cinema institute.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
