YEREVAN, APRIL 23, ARMENPRESS: Suren Krmoyan, an official of the
health ministry, said 30 companies dealing with production and sale of
medications have asked for permission to advertise their drugs on TV.

A set of new restrictions on advertisement of medicines and medical
equipment by television stations and newspapers came into force last
December 16. Under these restrictions pharmaceutical companies or
dealers before commissioning advertisement of any licensed drug will
have to seek a written permission of the Armenian healthy ministry.

The new procedure has banned altogether television and newspaper
advertisement of unregistered drugs.

These restrictions were prompted by serious concerns articulated by
medical authorities and doctors about the growing use of televised
advertising of medicines.

Suren Krmoyan said 14 applications were rejected because of failing
to meet these restrictions. He said also monitoring of media has
revealed that virtually all media outlets breach the law.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
