WASHINGTON, APRIL 23, NOYAN TAPAN – ARMENIANS TODAY. Senator Barbara
Boxer representing the U.S. State of California called on President
George Bush to clearly characterize in his April 24 message the one
happened in early this century in Ottaman Turkey as "genocide." Boxer
mentioned that the Armenian Genocide was the first genocide of the
20th century: "1.5 mln of Armenians were fiercely killed by Ottaman
Turks in 1915-1923."

It is said in B. Boxer’s call-letter that voluminous massacres
and persecutions of the past seem almost insignificant compared
with sufferings of Armenians in 1915. "We must not assist efforts
addressed to re-composition and denial of the history in the name of
democracy and development of the human rights. … We must recognize
the Armenian Genocide as long as the ones escaped it are with us and
we can listen to their real stories. We must recognize the genocide
in the name of those escaped. We must recognize the genocide as it is
necessary to do it. We must recognize the genocide to help spreading
light on the darkness and move towards a more humane world."

The Senator also emphasized that the Turkish Government still
shamelessly refuses to recognize the happened as a genocide.

To also recap, Barbara Boxer is one of supporters of the resolution
proposed by Senator Richard Durbin. The goal of the resolution is to
call on President Bush to correctly characterize the Armenian Genocide
in his annual speech on April 24.

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
