ARMENIA’S GOVERNMENT APPROVES CONCEPT OF HYDROMETEOROLOGICAL SECURITY

YEREVAN, April 26. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Government during its session
approved the concept of the hydrometeorological security, said Head
of Armhydrometcentre Levon Vardanyan.

He said that the concept is elaborated on the basis of the CIS states’
decision "On concept of the hydrometeorological security of the
CIS states."

"The concept is directed to the protection of citizens’ lives, health
and property, the country’s stable social-economic development from
harmful and unfavorable hydrometeorological phenomena," he said.

Vardanyan pointed out that the concept is directed to the protection
of the branches of economy that depend on weather conditions.

He said that weather conditions are in the centre of world communities’
attention.

"According to the experts’ research, it is not in vain that every euro
invested into the modernization of the hydrometeorological system makes
EUR 7 profit. Armenia also started studying the modernization program,
as a result of which, every invested euro makes EUR 13 profit,"
Vardanyan said. He added that the similar profit in Russia makes EUR 8.

He said that the World Bank is also greatly interested in the
modernization of the hydrometeorological system and has already
implemented similar projects in a number of countries.
