YEREVAN, April 28. /ARKA/. Ameria CJSC is contracted by United
Nations Development Program (UNDP) to conduct a baseline study
"Gender-Based Violence and Discrimination at Work", the press service
of the company reported. "This is the first comprehensive study that
has specifically focused on the violence and discrimination at the
workplace. It has generated unique statistical data on the gender gap
and salary deviation in certain industries," Partner of America CJSC
Gagik Sahakyan said.
According to him, this data reflect the real situation of gender-based
discrimination in Armenia and will help to develop state-promoted
measures in the Armenian labor market.
The objectives of the project announced by UNDP are to get adequate
and integral understanding on the current state of the gender-based
violence and discrimination at the workplace in Armenia, to promote
development of the legal framework on gender-based issues at the
workplace and relevant regulatory policy environment of Armenia, as
well as to strengthen capacity and role of NGOs in implementation
of the laws and policies on gender-based issues at the workplace
in Armenia.
In February and March 2007, Ameria conducted a research on the
current situation with gender-based violence and discrimination at
the workplace, interviews among the broad sample of employers and
employees in all regions of Armenia and survey of gender experts.
America also analyzed current legal framework on gender-based issues
at the workplace and identified major disadvantages and constraints
to solve the issue. America’s experts prepared a recommendation list
on legislative amendments and policy upgrade. The full package of
study results and recommendations will be accomplished in May.
