NAGORNO-KARABAKH DEFENSE MINISTER AGREES TO BECOME CHIEF OF GENERAL STAFF OF ARMENIA

The commander of the Defense Army of Nagorno-Karabakh, NK Defense
Minister Lieut. Gen. Seyran Ohanyan says that he has been appointed
as Chief of the General Staff of Armenia.
During a press-conference in Stepanakert Ohanyan said that now they
are considering the candidacy of new NK Defense Minister. "There are
many worthy people who can take up this post."
Ohanyan will replace Mikayel Haroutyunyan who has been appointed as
Defense Minister of Armenia.
Seyran Ohanyan was born in Shushi in 1962. In 1988 he served in the
armed forces in the German Democratic Republic. In 1992 he joined the
Nagorno-Karabakh army. In Sept 1992 he was seriously wounded. In Feb
1993 he was appointed as the chief of the Nagorno-Karabakh Defense
Army and in Oct 1994-Oct 1998 he was the first deputy commander of
the NO Defense Army. On Aug 2 1999 he was appointed as NK Defense
Minister. He is Hero of Artsakh.
