With the decision of the European Armenian Movement, in the framework
of the celebration of the Europe Day the "European of the Year"
Award will be honored to the Speaker of RA National Assembly Tigran
Torosyan for his efforts in the direction of deepening the relations
with European states and structures.

The "European Investment of the Year" Award will be honored to Vigen
Sargsyan for his contribution to the organization of the Year of
Armenia in France, AEPLAC team in the person of Tigran Jrbashyan and
the Great Valley Company for activation of Armenian-European ties.

For decades, May 9 has been celebrated all over Europe as the Europe
Day connected with the coincidence of a number of events, particularly,
the end of World War II, and the day of the Declaration submitted by
French Foreign Minister Robert Shuman in 1950. The Declaration was
calling on Europeans to unite for the sake of reinforcement of peace
in Europe.

The "European of the Year" and the "European Investment of the Year"
Awards are given to those political, economic or cultural workers who
best supported the propagation of European values and Europeanization
of their countries during the year.

In Armenia the Award is given in three fields – politics, culture
and economy.

In 2006 the Award was honored to the ex-Speaker of the National
assembly Arthur Baghdasaryan, "Paris Coffe" and "Kanaka" Companies
and the crew of " Cilicia" vessel.

“I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
