ARMENIAN ELECTORAL BODY PUBLISHES FINAL LIST OF PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATES

Yerevan, 2 May: Twenty-three political forces will run for the seats in
the Armenian parliament while in March, 27 parties and blocs announced
they will participate in the race, Garegin Azaryan, the chairman of
the Central Electoral Commission [CEC], said today [2 May].

Azaryan said that six candidates have withdrawn: A. Hakobyan and A.
Vardanyan from the Orinats Yerkir [Law-Governed Country] Party;
K Grigoryan from the Democratic Party [of Armenia]; G. Martirosyan
from the United Liberal National Party; and S. Shushanyan from the
Armenian Revolutionary Federation- Dashnaktsutyun.

Azaryan also said that 13,202 observers from 53 local organizations
and six international organizations will monitor the election. They
include 52 observers from the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the
CIS; 186 observers from the CIS; 302 from the OSCE; 71 from the OSCE
Parliamentary Assembly; 46 from the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary
Assembly; 12 from the European Parliament.

In total, 1,245 candidates will run for the new Armenian National
Assembly [parliament]; 281 out of them are women.

The Pan-Armenian National Movement and the Progressive Party of
Armenia have dropped out from the race.
