YEREVAN, MAY 3, ARMENPRESS: Prevention, Disclosure and Resistance
to Nuclear and Radioactive Hazards is the topic of the second
international conference that started in Yerevan today within the
frameworks of a NATO- sponsored Science for Peace program.

The goal of the conference is to bring together relevant researches
from different countries for discussions on effective struggle against
nuclear and radioactive dangers.

The conference has been organized by the Armenian Advanced Science
and Technology Center in cooperation with the USA-based Brookhaven
National Laboratory and the US Department of State.

U.S. Charge d’Affaires in Armenia Anthony Godfrey said the conference
provides a good opportunity for researchers from Armenia, USA,
Russia and some regional countries to meet and discuss policies and
modalities of fighting against nuclear and radioactive hazards.

"Terrorism in all its forms has become a global threat,’ he said,
adding that this subject is very embracive ranging from nuclear power
plants safety to ensuring safety of national borders.

In this context he underscored his government’s continuous assistance
to Armenia since 1996 to help it upgrade the safety of the Armenian
nuclear power plant and improve border security.
