KARATE TEAM OF ARMENIA PARTICIPATES IN EUROPE CHAMPIONSHIP HELD IN BRATISLAVA

BRATISLAVA, MAY 8, NOYAN TAPAN – ARMENIANS TODAY. The Europe karate
championship took place in Bratislava (Slovakia) on May 4-6. The team
of Armenia also participated in it. As the Noyan Tapan correspondent
informs from Bratislava, President of Slovakia Ivan Gasparovic and
Honourary Chairman of the Karate Federation of Slovakia, National
Council deputy were present at the opening.

The latter actively participated in 2004 at the National Council
of Slovakia in adoption of the resolution concerning the Armenian
Genocide.

Men’s team of Russia and women’s team of Spain won the Europe
champion’s title at the team struggle.

Chairman of the Karate Federation of Armenia Grigor Mikayelian and
members of the Armenian team laid wreaths at the Armenian khachkar
(cross stone) in Bratislava. The khachkar is placed in memory of
adoption of the resolution concerning the Armenian Genocide by the
Parliament of Slovakia.

In honour of the Armenian sportsmen, an agreement on developing
the ties between the Karate Federations of Slovakia and Armenia was
reached during the dinner party organized by Chairman of the Armenian
community of Slovakia Ashot Grigorian. A. Grigorian also emphasized
the importance of supporting Armenian sportsmen during performances
in other countries by the Armenian communities.
