conflict settlement

Yesterday, for the first time after four years of membership, Serbia
took over the presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council
of Europe from San Marino for a period of six months.

Mr Fiorenzo Stolfi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of San Marino, and
Terry Davis, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, gave a joint
press conference.
Mr. Davis expressed his satisfaction with San Marino’s presidency.
Mr Fiorenzo Stolfi answered APA correspondent’s question on Nagorno
Karabakh conflict, saying that the Council of Europe has no direct
role and intervention in the settlement of this conflict but keeps
attention on the process.
`The Council of Europe sees no alternative to negotiations in the
settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. It is also San Marino’s
stance. I think it is one of the main principles of the Council of
Europe,’ he added.
Tarry Davis upheld Stolfi’s opinion, emphasizing that there is, in
fact, no alternative to peace talks for the settlement process.
`Our answer [that there is no alternative] rests on the fact that the
both countries undertook to settle the conflict in a peaceful manner.
The OSCE Minsk Group has assumed mediation mission and the
discussions are under way. The MG co-chairs and the two countries’
foreign ministers have recently had one more regular meeting. We are
also anticipating the results of elections in Armenia. The resolution
of this conflict is very complicated,’ he noted.
He added that the quick solution to the conflict is of the utmost
importance for nations lived in Karabakh before the conflict and
internally displaced people.
`The earlier this conflict is solved, the earlier these two
governments will be able to improve living standards of people. I, as
a friend of South Caucasus nations, would like to see quicker
advancement in the settlement process,’ he concluded. /APA-Economics/

Emil Lazarian: “I should like to see any power of the world destroy this race, this small tribe of unimportant people, whose wars have all been fought and lost, whose structures have crumbled, literature is unread, music is unheard, and prayers are no more answered. Go ahead, destroy Armenia . See if you can do it. Send them into the desert without bread or water. Burn their homes and churches. Then see if they will not laugh, sing and pray again. For when two of them meet anywhere in the world, see if they will not create a New Armenia.” - WS
