Sarkozy Advisor Sure President Will do He Said in Issue Of Turkey

SARKOZY’S ADVISOR IS SURE THAT PRESIDENT TO DO WHAT HE SAID IN ISSUE
OF TURKEY’S MEMBERSHIP TO EU

PARIS, MAY 11, NOYAN TAPAN. Alain Lamassoure, the Advisor on EU Issues
of newly-elected President of France Nicolas Sarkozy mentioned during
one of broadcasts of the EurActiv internet site that "France will be
against Turkey’s membership to the EU."

According to the Milliyet daily, Nicolas Sarkozy’s Advisor, reminding
about Sarkozy’s statements addressed to Turkey, said: "Nicolas Sarkozy
said that if he becomes the President he will hamper the process of
negotiations on Turkey’s membership to the EU. And now he will do what
he said."

Lamassoure at the same time mentioned that Turkey is an eastern state
and can not occupy a place in the EU. He added that he observes start
of negotiations with Turkey as "a great mistake:" "European leaders
gave promise to Turkey in 1999 which they will not be able to
keep. When giving that promise they did not consult either with
parliaments or with governments or peoples. The first counteractions
addressed to Turkey’s membership were fixed in France and Holland. And
a number of other European states are led by similar moods now."
