YEREVAN, MAY 15, NOYAN TAPAN. "Armenia’s participation in
Eurovision-2007 song contest was very successful. Though we took the
8th place, I have an impression that we have taken the first place,
as my performance received a warm welcome not only in Armenia, but
also in the Diaspora." Singer Hayko who represented Armenia at the
song contest stated at the May 15 press conference. In his words,
singers having strong voice participated in Eurovision-2007, but they
even did not pass to the final, and Serbia’s victory, in Hayko’s words,
was unexpected for many people.
Armen Arzumanian, Executive Director of Public Television of Armenia,
said that they are content with the results, as many countries have
been participating in that contest for many years, but they have
never passed to the final.
In A. Arzumanian’s words, both in 2006 and this year countries of
Eastern Europe and Scandinavian countries did not vote for Armenia. "Of
course, we should not forget that we have little experience of
participation in that contest, but we hope we will take higher places
in the future," he said.
By the way, one of Finnish islands was named after Hayko on the
initiative of Finnish Armenians.
