"Armenian Nightingale" Gohar Gasparyan Passed Away

"ARMENIAN NIGHTINGALE" GOHAR GASPARYAN PASSED AWAY

Yesterday at 16:00 the "Armenian nightingale," the greatest Armenian
opera singer Gohar Gasparyan passed away. She was a National Artist of
the USSR, Hero of Socialist Labor, National Artist of Armenia, laureate
of "Mestop Mashtots" Order, Professor of the Yerevan Conservatory.

Gohar Gasparyan was born in 1924 in Cairo. She studied at the local
musical academy. In 1948 she was repatriated. Since 1949 she played
the leading roles in 23 operas at the National Theater of Opera and
Ballet of Armenia.

There were 500 compositions in her concert repertoire.

"Gohar was a wonder of nature, a strong personality who passed a
brilliant vocal school. She served to both international vocal art and
the Armenian music. A number of masterpieces were created in Armenian
music, which presented the Armenian vocal art to the world," says
Varuzhan Pluzyan, the musical critic of the Public Radio of Armenia.

Famous singer Zaruhi Dolukhanyan noted: "Gohar Gasparyans are born
once in a century. Gohar was a star."
